The growth of social media over the past few years has opened several new opportunities in marketing. Sports teams like the US Women's National Team and the newly founded Orlando City Soccer Club have utilized social media to gather a strong following.
1. #OneNationOneTeam - This hashtag was used over 200,000 times on Twitter and Instagram during the 2015 Women's World Cup. The marketing managers of TeamUSA set out to spread awareness and support for the team. The Women's National Team also had many celebrity endorsements, and sent out hundreds of customized jerseys to famous politicians and celebrities. If there was a World Cup for Sports Marketing, this campaign would have won as well.

2. Orlando City Soccer Club - This new MLS team needed a way to get their name and brand noticed. They came up with an interesting Social Media Scavenger Hunt promotion. They used platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Periscope to reward fans with free season tickets and other team items. In order to participate in these events, one would have to follow the team's account. This bumped ticket sales and team merchandise sales.
