What Color is Your Parachute - Overview

What Color is Your Parachute Overview

What Color is Your Parachute 2017 by Richard N. Bolles was a great and interesting guide for job-hunting. It has examples of what potential employers might ask you in interviews, tips on how to make your resume stand out, and how to negotiate a salary. Since I will be looking for a career opportunity in about a year or so, I need to be prepared as possible, and this manual is like a recipe book on how to get a job.

Creating Your Resume

What I found interesting in this section was how much more you can actually do with your resume. You can add so many things to it that could interest potential employers. These could be skills and even hobbies. It's also interesting to see how much has changed in the recent years. Finding jobs online has increased dramatically since 2008. Now, all you need is a LinkedIn profile and some networking in order to be found by employers. The best part is that you can pick and choose what jobs you want, or let employers come to you.

How to Start Your Own Business

This chapter was interesting as well. I found out that starting your own business isn't as hard as you might think.

a) You don't need a million dollars to start your business. Not even $100,000

b) Research must be done in order to stay in the legal borders and attract clients and customers

c) The Internet is your best friend when it comes to creating a business. Online stores can make money all by themselves if set up correctly

d) You don't need to buy a franchise or even a work space. Self-Employment can mean working from home via a home office
